Introduction: Welcome to the Learning To Mom Podcast! | Ep. 00

Welcome to the Learning To Mom Podcast, Mom friends! Today's episode is a great introduction to who I am, why I created the Learning To Mom Podcast and what to expect going forward.

Join me each week on the Learning to Mom Podcast where I give you the whole scoop on all things pregnancy and birth. From contractions to forming a bond with your baby in the womb to nursery essentials,  I've got you!

On today’s episode, I’m going to do 3 things:

I’m first, I’m gonna introduce myself

Then share why I started this podcast

Lastly, I’ll share how this podcast is set up and how it’s gonna roll

INTRODUCTION TO ME

I wanted to give some backstory to this podcast and share who I am so I’m not such a stranger.

I already mentioned that I was the first of my friends to have a baby… my now husband and i actually got pregnant while we were still dating.

So in all honesty, pregnancy was REALLY really challenging for me. I never actually really desired to be a mom. Even as a little girl, I had no interest in playing the role of Pretend Mom when my friends and I were playing house.

So I really struggled. So if that’s where you are, struggling with the idea of being pregnant. I’ve been there. And I just want to say that i’m proud of you for embracing it and choosing life. Being on this side of things, motherhood is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

A little bit about us.. we live in a suburb of Indianapolis. We’re proud Catholics and we adore being mom and dad.

If we met on a playground and we were chatting, I would tell you about how my baby girl Myla is (at the time of this release) a year and a month old. Matthew, my husband, came up with the name by combining Laila and Matthew together in a way. I would tell you that I loooove long walks- I detest running but if I had the time to walk 10 miles a day, I would. I love country music and the lake. I think we’d be friends!

I know I’ll share more about myself and my story as this season goes!

WHY I STARTED IT

So I was the first of my friends to have a baby.. Had to figure out a lot of motherhood on my own.

I wanted to create the resource for first time moms that I wish I could have had.

How Learning To Mom Differs from other resources out there

It’s structured. It doesn’t jump around from topic to topic

It encompasses all different viewpoints. For example, not JUST talking about the homebirths and natural births. But also talking about epidurals. So that first time moms can understand the different options and find what works best for her!

It’s positive and empowering. It’s not just relatable content where we partner bash and complain about how hard it is to be a mom. Yes, motherhood is CHALLENGING. I won’t just give into toxic positivity either, but.. So often with all the just “relatable” content and resources out there- we are left feeling crummier, more bitter and angrier. So Learning To Mom will leave you feeling equipped and empowered to actually be the amazing mom that you want to be!

HOW IT’S GONNA ROLL

These first few episodes are all rolled out today at once. I wanted you to be able to binge it and get a grasp and a feel for the podcast. Then, episodes will be released weekly on Monday Mornings!

This first season will be topics that you encounter DURING pregnancy. So from… what to ask your OBGYN during appointments to how to safely work out during pregnancy to what does a contraction feel like to how to create a birth plan… I got you covered!

Then season 2 will be topics that you encounter in baby’s first year of life… so from postpartum depression to introducing solids.. Season 3 then will be topics you encounter in baby’s second year of life and so on and so forth.

Each week I will be joined by an expert in that topic! I am so excited. For this first season I have an OBGYN, a labor and delivery nurse, midwives, birth coaches, doulas, pelvic floor therapist, a mom who’s had multiple home births and more. This season is absolutely stacked and I cannot wait for you to learn from them!! There will be some weeks where i’m solo, but for the most part- like 90% of the time, there is a specialist!

Thank you so much for listening in. I cannot wait to help you, equip you and take some of the stress off of you by asking these specialists all the gazillion first time mom questions for you!
